Extracts from the 3rd General Conference

Colombo, Sri Lanka-1983

The third AARS General Conference was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka during the fourth ACRS from 10-15 November 1983. The session was presided over by Mr. S.D.F.C Nanayakkara, Suveyor General of Sri Lanka. China was admitted as a new member. Nine member countries attended the AARS General Conference: Bangladesh, China, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. Professor Shunji Murai was selected to continue as the General Secretary for 1984 and 1985. The following resolutions were adopted:


The conference adopted the following resolutions:

  1. General Conference affirmed its deepest appreciation of the support and encouragement given by His Excellency J.R. Jayawardane, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Hon. Gamini Dissanayake, Minister of Lands and Land Development and Mahaweli Development to the fourth ACRS.

  2. The General Conference also affirmed its deepest appreciation of the services performed by the Chairman and Members of the Organizing Committee, the Officers and Staff of the Sri Lanka Survey Department and the Government of Sri Lanka in making excellent arrangements for the hosting of the 4th ACRS.
