Extracts from the 6th General Conference

Seoul, Republic of Korea, 1986

The General Conference was held on 24 and 27 October 1986 in Seoul, Republic of Korea, under the chairmanship of Dr. Ahn Kyung Mo. Delegates from India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam attended. The General Conference amended Article 6 and 8 of the Statutes as follows:

Article 6 "Membership" was amended in order to define an associate member. After the second phrase, the following phrase was added: "Any non-Asian country or organization interested in the Association may apply to join the Association as an associate member."

Article 8 "Asian Conference on Remote Sensing" was amended as follows: "ACRS shall be held each year within the period of October to December except in special cases to be approved by the General Conference, in conjunction with the General Conference."

During this session of the General Conference, Australia was admitted as an Associate Member of AARS. The General Conference also discussed holding an Asian Remote Sensing Symposium during the 16th ISPRS in Kyoto in July 1988.
